Title: Differential Diagnosis of Motor Speech Disorders
Differential diagnosis of motor speech disorders relies heavily on detection and interpretation of relevant perceptual speech features. In this course, participants will practice “honing their ear” to the perceptual characteristics of dysarthria and apraxia of speech in adults and children.
Audio and video examples of salient respiratory, phonatory, resonatory, articulatory, and prosodic features of dysarthria and apraxia of speech will be presented.
Participants will have the opportunity to practice detecting, describing, and distinguishing among speech features and to formulate differential diagnoses based on patterns of features that are perceived. Cases reflecting developmental, acute, and progressive etiologies will be included.
